Matthew Kaplan is a film producer who has made a lot of well-known movies for young adults. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, his teen romance, was a huge hit that led to several sequels. This businessman is rumored to be dating Alexandra “Alex” Cooper, who is the host of the podcast “Call Her Daddy.” Together, they could be a Gen Z power couple.
Before becoming the media mogul and founder of ACE Entertainment, he was the president of Awesomeness Films. He has worked his way up the Hollywood ladder slowly. He is successful in part because he works hard to find new talent. Instead of always going for well-known stars, he helps up-and-coming actors get their start.
Cooper and Kaplan’s relationship has been kept pretty quiet, but Cooper’s fans were able to figure out what was going on by putting together clues from his show.
Matthew Kaplan was born on April 14, 1984. He went to Columbia University and got his BA while playing quarterback for the Lions, his college football team. After he graduated, Les Moonves, the president of CBS, hired him as an intern, which turned into a job as the director of digital development.
After leaving CBS on good terms, he went to Lionsgate Films and oversaw projects like They Came Together with Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd.
The intern who became a producer worked hard and started Chapter One Films. He signed a first-look deal with Blumhouse Productions, a huge company that makes horror movies. Before Kaplan moved on to Awesomeness in 2015, Chapter One made movies like The Lazarus Effect and 6 Miranda Drive. At Awesomeness, he was in charge of the film division.
This was a big job because the company was new to the movie business, but Kaplan came through and helped make several movies for young adults. One of these was Before I Fall, which came out in 2017 and starred Zoey Deutch.
Kaplan worked at Awesomeness for two years before leaving to try again to start his own production company. This business is now called ACE Entertainment, and it caters to young adults.
After making To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, ACE is now a top-tier production company. Kaplan has also made the movies Spontaneous (coming out in 2020), The Perfect Date (coming out in 2019), and The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, which will soon be on Netflix.
Kaplan told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017 that he wants to “nurture the careers” of new talent behind the camera by giving advice to the same age group that his content is aimed at.
The Pennsylvanian was born on August 21, 1994, and she got her degree from Boston University. Before that, she worked for the YouTube channel Dirty Water Media. The channel showed nightlife, parties, and gaming events in Boston.
Cooper got her start as a podcaster in 2018 when she and her (former) best friend Sofia Franklyn started a podcast. The dating advice and dirty stories that these first-time podcasters shared got a lot of attention, which led to a deal with Barstool Sports. Cooper wanted to be a YouTube vlogger at first, but as CHD’s popularity grew, she realized that she should be doing something else.
Franklyn and Cooper broke up in a very dramatic way in 2020. They had not talked about a contract in a long time, but Franklyn wanted to leave Barstool at the cost of Call Her Daddy’s intellectual property. Cooper did not want to rebuild the pod without its running jokes and shared language. This led to a break in their personal and professional relationship since they had been roommates.
Cooper did eventually leave Barstool Sports for a deal with Spotify that paid her $60 million over three years. This made her the highest-paid female podcaster in history.
Even though the “Call Her Daddy” host never said Kaplan was her boyfriend (aka “Mr. Sexy Zoom Man”), fans were able to figure it out by putting together clues from Cooper’s show.
In 2020, when the pandemic was at its worst, the two people met through Zoom during a business meeting. Cooper supposedly fell in love with the ruggedly handsome movie producer right away, and the two later met for a business dinner.
Dinner turned into a week-long date, but because of their jobs, they decided to keep it a secret. Still, Cooper let slip that her boyfriend was a producer and that he had a dog named Henry.
Her readers quickly found that Kaplan met this requirement (along with some other helpful clues).
What did Kaplan and Cooper do before they started dating each other?
In 2014, Kaplan began dating Claire Holt, an Australian actress. In 2016, they got married in a small ceremony with only close family and friends. Holt said the same thing on social media, but the couple broke up in 2017. Kaplan was linked to designer Ashley Olsen before he married Holt.
Cooper’s ex-boyfriends and love life are a big part of her podcast, and just like fans were able to find Kaplan, many of her exes aren’t really a secret. One thing is that Cooper dated NBC actor Ryan Eggold for five short dates. His work on 90210 and The Blacklist made him famous.
Noah Syndergaard, who plays for the Philadelphia Phillies, was her boyfriend in the past. On the podcast, he is known as “Slim Shady,” and he is one of the only confirmed relationships the podcaster has had to date.
